Fascia and soffit cleaning in Fareham

Fascia and soffit cleaning,
by a Fareham local.

  • Fascia, soffit, gutter faces, downpipes, trims and bargeboards
  • Specialist UPVC cleaner, hand-worked with soft brushes
  • No pressure washing — no water forced into the roof void
  • Pure-water rinse so it dries streak-free, windows rinsed too
  • Worked from the ground — no ladders leaning on brittle UPVC
  • Honest assessment on badly oxidised or chalky boards
  • Discounted when booked with gutter clearance — £1M insured

The roofline is the part of a Fareham house nobody cleans until they finally look up. Fascia boards go from white to a grey-streaked, green-edged mess so gradually that most people stop seeing it — and then a neighbour has theirs done and the difference is impossible to unsee. It is also the single cheapest way to make a house look ten years younger, because bright white fascia, soffit and gutter faces frame everything below them. We clean roofline UPVC across Fareham with a reach-and-pole hand-detailing method: a specialist UPVC cleaner applied to the surface, worked with soft brushes, then rinsed with pure water so it dries clean without streaking. There is no pressure washing involved, which matters more on a roofline than anywhere else on the building. And because we work from the ground, no ladder is ever leant against the fascia or gutter — the exact thing that cracks brittle old UPVC and pulls brackets loose.

The local problem

Why Fareham rooflines go black and green

Those vertical black streaks under the gutter are not dirt in the ordinary sense. They are a mix of airborne particulate, roof-tile grit and organic growth that rainwater carries down the front face of the gutter and fascia and then leaves behind as it evaporates — a tide-line, essentially, deposited over and over until it stains. Fareham gets an unusually thorough version of it. The M27, A27 and Delme roundabout supply diesel soot and brake dust; the harbour and Solent supply a salt aerosol that makes the film cling; and the town's damp, sheltered microclimate feeds algae, lichen and green mould on the north and east-facing soffits, especially under the deep overhangs common on 1960s–80s Fareham housing and on the estates at Highlands, Fareham Park and Knowle. Trees make it worse again: honeydew from limes and sycamores through Wallington and Catisfield goes tacky and then black with sooty mould. On coastal-facing runs at Hill Head and Stubbington the fascia takes a salt-and-sand blast on top of everything else. None of this comes off with a hosepipe, and all of it comes back faster once the surface has been scratched by aggressive cleaning.

Our method

Hand-detailed, not blasted

Owner-operated by Chris — ex-Royal Navy, trained in the trade, and the same face on every visit. No subcontractors, no sales calls.

UPVC roofline is thin, often decades old, and brittle where UV has degraded it. Pressure washing it is a false economy: it drives water up behind the soffit and into the roof void, it can blow out old joints and vent strips, and it micro-scratches the surface so it holds dirt and re-soils within months. Our method is deliberately gentler and takes longer. A dedicated UPVC cleaning solution is applied to the fascia, soffit, gutter face, corner joints and downpipes and given time to break down the film. It is then worked by hand with soft brushes on a reach pole so the corners, the underside of the soffit, the vent strips and the awkward run behind the downpipe actually get touched — the places a blast simply skips over. Finally the whole roofline is rinsed with filtered pure water so it dries without spots or tide-marks, and the windows and sills below get rinsed down too so nothing is left running down the glass. On heavily oxidised, chalky UPVC we will tell you upfront how much of the original whiteness is realistically recoverable, and can discuss a UPVC restoration finish rather than promising a result the material cannot give.

Detail that matters

What you're actually
paying for.

What is included

Fascia boards, soffit boards and their vent strips, the external face and underside edge of the gutters, all downpipes and their brackets, corner and joint trims, bargeboards, and porch and canopy roofline. Cladding panels and dormer cheeks can be added. We rinse the windows, frames and sills underneath as part of the job so you are not left with dirty run-off marks on freshly framed glass.

Best booked alongside gutter clearance

The two jobs share the same access and the same equipment, so doing them together is cheaper than two separate visits — and it makes sense in order: gutters cleared and flushed first, then the outside faces cleaned, so nothing washes back out over a finished surface. Most Fareham customers who have not touched their roofline in five or ten years book the pair, and it is the single biggest visual change we can make to a house in a day.

Timber and painted rooflines

Plenty of older Fareham and Titchfield-side properties still have painted timber fascia and soffit rather than UPVC. We clean those too, but the approach changes: softer chemistry, less dwell time, careful rinsing and no attempt to force off failing paint. If the paint is already flaking, we will tell you honestly that cleaning will reveal it rather than hide it, so you can plan for repainting.

How long it lasts

A properly hand-detailed roofline in Fareham typically stays looking sharp for two to three years before the streaking is noticeable again — longer on sheltered elevations, shorter on north-facing runs under trees or on exposed coastal-facing frontages. Because we do not scratch the surface, it re-soils at the natural rate rather than the accelerated rate you get after pressure washing.

Straight pricing

Fascia and soffit cleaning prices in Fareham

Quoted per property from a photo, with the price fixed in writing before we start. The variables are the length of the roofline, the number of storeys, how much of it sits over a conservatory or extension, and how long it has been since it was last cleaned — a first clean after fifteen years takes considerably longer than a maintenance clean.

  • Quicker, yes — better, no. Pressure forces water behind the soffit and into the roof void and micro-scratches the UPVC so it re-soils far faster. We hand-detail instead, which is why the finish lasts.
